Taking the Journey

I’ve setup this little home here to encourage and motivate myself to build my own repertoire of tunes. I’ve always been an accompanist at sessions, and that is something I truly enjoy. When I’m at home after a long day at work however, my go-to is to pick up the mandolin and pick away at it.

There’s nothing wrong with just playing a small handful of tunes over and over, but with so much more music out there I decided to commit to learning more and more. Playing with friends at the Old Town School of Folk Music here in Chicago has really inspired me. Learning new tunes with them and coming together each week to play with them has revitalized my own playing and my love of folk music.

The tunes I post here will mostly be from the Irish and Scottish traditions, but that is not my sole interest in folk music. I love American old-time music and other folk traditions from around the world. As I learn more I plan to include these as bonus tunes.

I do hope you get something out of this little website here. Maybe it’s just to listen, or to practice accompaniment, or work on the melody with me. Whatever brought you here, enjoy!
